According to the CEC, are you allowed to bury a junction box in a wall? I have 4" metal octagon boxes with metal covers and the contractors say that they are allowed to bury them in a wall. The contractor said that they don't make plastic covers for the boxes, so there is no way to even make the boxes look nice in a finished wall if you did not bury them.
Can someone let me know what the CEC allows?
Thanks,
Thomas

The junction box can be recessed into the wall but it MUST be accessible, you cannot totally bury the J box.
There are very nice painted metal covers with brass studs that screw into the box and then brass cap nuts that hold the cover on,they look pretty good on a finished wall. If your supply house doesn't carry them the big box hardware stores do.

Never bury junction boxes. If the problem is looks, I usually install new wiring between the boxes, leaving the general contractor to repair any damages which might occur.
Occasionally, it is possible to "pull back" the wiring to another box, or make the junctions in the new device boxes installed. Planning is the key.
